If it is a natural therapy you are looking for there is a new craze sweeping the UK. Known as the ‘Piranha Pedicure’, 150 Garra Rufa fish set to work nibbling your feet as they soak in a tub of water.
The tiny fish nibble your feet eating away dead skin, creating an exfoliating effect. Following a session of therapeutic nibbling the skin is left smooth. The fish also have an ‘acupuncture’ affect as they touch tiny pressure points creating a boost in blood circulation.
Ab Fab hair and Beauty Salon in Blackburn are the most recent salon to stock the Garra Rufa fish. The salon Manager Rachel Walker said “Because the treatment is so natural, clients with certain skin conditions benefit from it.
“Steroid creams can strip the skin but the fish just nibble away naturally and gently. It is just fantastic.”
The ‘Prianha Pedicure’ which originated in Turkey has been proven to help with psoriasis and eczema. But if it is a full body treatment you require you would be best to go to Singapore or Malaysia. Here a full body exfoliation can be achieved as 300 tiny fish nibble away at your whole body.
Mel’s thoughts
Whilst it all makes perfect sense and I can see how the therapy could be beneficial for eczema and psoriasis sufferers I am not sure how I would feel about submerging any part of my body for the sole purpose of being attacked by fish – no matter how small. No I will be sticking with the more traditional topical treatments.
